As many of us make home improvements, remodeling kitchens, finishing basements, putting on additions, etc., we are often left with extra building materials that could be put to good use. In speaking with a neighbor the other day who had recently updated their kitchen, they said they hated putting their old, perfectly good kitchen cabinets out for the trash, but had no use for them. Now you have a new option! Why not consider donating those old kitchen cabinets, light fixtures, extra lumber, tiles, appliances, furniture, and other useable but unneeded items to the local Habitat For Humanity 'ReBuild' Store. They have a truck and you can simply arrange to have it picked up at your home.

As a member of the Bucks County Association of Realtors Affordable Housing Committee, which sponsors our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County, I have seen first hand what volunteers and donations can accomplish. I have participated in several 'build days' where a group of 'unskilled' volunteers take hammers and nails and help to build the townhomes in the Emerald Hollow Habitat community near Quakertown. All of the materials used to build the homes are donated or purchased with money raised by various fundraising efforts. The 'ReBuild' Stores will resell the donated items to raise money for their continuing projects in the Bucks County area.
